Board / Maine Board of Medicine
Maine is one of two States which recognizes
United Kingdom Internships, Residencies, and Fellowships. They
are the only Board which recognizes the examinations
administrated by the GMC of the United Kingdom. Maine
would be a great board to work with if they did not require the
FCVS Process. This one requirement artificially delays the
process by 2 to 6 months. Outside of this, Maine is the only
Board in which a Physician from the U.K. can apply to without
completing any training in the USA or taking all three Steps of
the USMLE. Maine does require that the physician hold Board
Certification in the USA or have a valid ECFMG Certificate.
Maine does offer a temporary license to those physicians who will
request it. It is not listed with their application. To obtain it
the applicant must attach a note/letter to the application
requesting one. The temporary is good for 6 months while the full
license is being considered.
