New Jersey Board
of Medicine – MD Board
The New Jersey Board of
Medicine is actually one of the more enjoyable State Medical
Boards to work with concerning the medical licensing process. The
Staff is extremely helpful. If a physician has problems or issues,
the Board is one of the more fairer Boards in the nation. Our
opinion concerning the New Jersey State Medical Board has shifted
over the past 4 years from one to disfavor to one of favor.
The licensing process with
New Jersey is straightforward. There are no mandatory board
appearances. The New Jersey Medical Board does not have a 10 year
rule or SPEX requirement. All Employment, Privileges, and
Malpractice Insurance has to be verified for the past 5 years. The
Medical School and all College since High School has to be
verified. There is a fingerprint/LiveScan requirement. In
all cases we recommend that the LiveScan be utilized instead of
the Fingerprint Cards. The AMA Physician Profile has to be
requested. There are no Clinical Clerkship verification
requirements. (Big plus for Caribbean trained physicians)
MedLicense.com is typically finished with the New Jersey Physician
Licensing process within 4 to 8 weeks. The Board typically issues
the license after the fingerprint cards are returned by the FBI (8
to 12 weeks) or in the event that the LiveScan is utilized, within
a week or two after the last verification is received.
The process of licensure with the New Jersey
Medical Board before May 2005 use to be a long grueling process. 6
to 9 month licensing periods were the norm. The only exceptions
were those physicians who had immediate job offers. Those
physicians would be "placed at the front of the line" at
the detriment of those physicians who did not have job offers. Since May 2005
we have noticed a major shift in
the processing time for the
New Jersey State Board of Medical
Examiners. In the past our policy
was to inform all physicians
applying for a New Jersey Medical
License that
the New Jersey Medical Board
typically took 4 to 7 months to
process new New Jersey Medical
License applications.
The New Jersey Medical Board does
allow physicians to
have their New Jersey Medical
License applications expedited
if they had a job offer in New
Jersey. Recently the trend at the
New Jersey State Board of Medical
Examiners has been to move the
applications through their review
process at a faster pace. The last
10 licenses we had issued at New
Jersey were processed and issued
between 3 to 4 months. We cannot
promise that this trend will
continue but it seems that the New
Jersey State Board of Medical
Examiners has reduced their
backlog so as to provide
comparable processing times with the
majority of the other State
Medical Boards.
